The Forum after dark: one guided visit

The Roman Forum is a day site. Its regular opening hours end between 16:30 and 19:15, depending on the season. After that, the only way in is a separate guided programme called Una Notte al Foro Romano. For 2026 it runs on Fridays from 19:30 to 22:00, with last entry at 20:30. The visit itself lasts about 75 minutes.

These are the weekly times that are published. They are not a full-year calendar, so check which Fridays are on sale before you plan a trip around it. Do not assume that every Friday has a departure.

What the evening route covers

You enter and leave through the gate at Largo della Salara Vecchia. The route follows the Via Sacra, crosses the central area of the Forum and stops at the Temple of Vesta with the House of the Vestals, and at the Temple of Antoninus and Faustina.

That is a selection, not the whole site. You do not get night access to the Palatine houses or to every building of the Forum. For the layout in daylight, see the route and map page.

Booking rules for the evening visit

They are stricter than for a day ticket.

Seven days ahead

Dates are released 7 days before the visit. With only 25 places per date, book as soon as your Friday appears.

Official shop only

The programme is sold only through the official ticket shop. A listing elsewhere is a different product, so check the date, the language, the group size and what the price covers.

The name cannot be changed

The conditions of this programme do not allow later changes to the name on the ticket. The general rule for day tickets since May 2026 allows one limited change. Do not rely on it here. Bring the ID that matches the booking.

The day visit comes the next day

The programme page includes a day visit to the Forum and the Palatine, the SUPER sites and the Imperial Forums, but only on the following day. Do not carry this over to a normal day ticket.

Seeing the ruins from outside

A lit ruin seen from the street is a view, not entry. It does not let you into the excavation. Lighting times for individual monuments are not something to plan around. If you want to be inside after dark, the guided visit is the way.

The Colosseum has its own evening programme, Una Notte al Colosseo, with separate dates and conditions. For that, and for Rome after dark in general, see Rome at night. The Colosseum itself is covered by the Colosseum guide.

Practical points for an evening

  • Wear sturdy shoes. The ground is uneven, and the rules ask visitors to take care.
  • Do not climb on columns, capitals or wall blocks, and keep to the marked paths.
  • Check the last metro and bus times for your return. The Colosseo station is the closest stop, as described in getting there.
  • Glass bottles are not allowed. Bring water in a plastic bottle.

Planning your Friday evening

A simple order that avoids the usual mistakes.

1. Pick the Friday

Choose a Friday that fits the rest of your Rome plans, and keep the next day free for the included day visit.

2. Book on release day

Dates open 7 days before the visit. Have the full name from your ID ready, because it cannot be changed later.

3. Arrive early

Last entry is 20:30, and the group meets at Largo della Salara Vecchia. Arrive well before your slot and carry your ticket on your phone, since printing is not required.

4. Use the next morning

On the following day the Forum, the Palatine and the Imperial Forums are included. Start at 9:00, and see the best time page for the hours by season.
